A Message From Terri
Hundreds of diet and nutrition books line the shelves of every local bookstore. Each offers a different twist on the same basic advice:
Eat less refined sugars and high glycemic carbohydrates
Eat better quality fats and oils
Include lean proteins in your diet and avoid fatty meats and saturated fats
Increase your fiber intake
Include more whole grains and deeply colored fruits/vegetables to obtain health-protective factors in these foods
In a nutshell, these basic guidelines reflect our current wisdom in the field of nutrition. My challenge is to provide these guidelines, in the context of a user-friendly and calorie-matched meal plan that will be easy to follow for the rest of your life. Yes, not for three weeks, but for a lifetime. These nutrition strategies reflect several generations of research, human experience, and the refinements in food processing and distribution that have been perpetuated by busy modern lifestyles.
Most of the popular diet books play upon one or more of these diet principles and explain in scientific detail how our metabolism and biochemical pathways are affected by various degrees of over- or under-eating different foods. The voices of moderation shout for more balance in the diet, and the need for portion control rather than intellectual analysis of every bite of food for its glycemic rating, fiber points, and omega 3-6 ratio.
I’m a dietitian who has seen both ends of the spectrum. I have worked in hospital dietetic programs for 16 years and know the accepted scientific positions of the Dietetic Association, the Dairy Council and other institutions that try to be the voice of reason, while sometimes missing the boat in providing truly timely information to the public, for fear of “misinformation”.
I have also worked in holistic, complimentary clinics for many years and have been trained by some of the best minds in the field- physicians, naturopaths, chiropractors, mercury-free dentists, and others who agree that the terrain (internal environment and conditions) of the body can give rise to wellness or disease, along with external environmental and genetic influences.
My goal is to create a meaningful and useful tool to help you find an easy way to take the best we know about nutrition and boil it down into some simple guidelines and strategies that are tailored to your individual needs. After sixteen years of focusing on the intellectualism of nutrition and metabolism, recent spiritual insight revealed to me that you must see to it that your own house is in order. You must be clear about why and how you are eating, before any knowledge of good nutrition will make a difference for you. Examine your emotional and spiritual health, using the tools I have provided in this website. Once you are clear about your readiness to change, you can proceed to the section of the site that offers a personalized nutrition report, meal plan, food lists, and a dining out guide. These tools are built on the most updated diet principles, with tailored suggestions for the best foods to choose and avoid, based on the individual characteristics you share with me in your metabolic questionnaire.
Blessings to you-
Terri
